A Firm Foundation - Hopefully!

This view is from the back.
Just about finished the foundation. Next step is to pour the hearth. The first 1 1/2 inches of the hearth is made of portland cement and vermiculite for an insulation barrier and then 4" of regular concrete. On top of that is the actual hearth of firebrick laid on edge. As of today my 10 cubic feet of vermiculite hasn't come in to Southern States, so I'll have to work on other little things until it does. I have the rest of the worktable wall and the arch that I can be working on. Maybe the hearth won't get poured until after the Okefenokee swamp trip.
Speaking of the Swamp Trip - We leave next Tuesday to drive to Folkston, Georgia and then get shuttled to Kingfisher Landing to put-in our canoes the first thing Wednesday morning. Two nights camping in the swamp on the "chickees" (like docks in the swamp with composting toilets) and then drive back home on Friday. Its a beautiful time of year in teh swamp with the alligators, turltes, White Ibis (Devin called them Swamp Chickens) and the flowers and plants are blooming. Hopefully it will be a good trip with myself, Jeremiah, Matthew (Chewy), Devin and Josiah (Gator Bait). Although Matthew is the youngest and should be Gator Bait, the alligators already know he's a bit chewy - GRIN.
